Blatant Almost-Plagerism(Stealing Becky's Post Style)

I just love summer dressing...it's so simple and airy.Sometimes I really want to layer, but for the most part I just enjoy simplicity:)This is what I wore the other day to do some errands and thangs, when it was about a thousand degrees outside.

Tee:Target

Bubble Skirt: {Hedda.}
look for these to come soon to my Etsy!

Belt: Thrift score!!!Becky and I went thrifting on Tuesday, and I kid you not,it was the best thrift day ever.I got TEN amazing belts(which I intend to show soon!)for $1 each,a lace top,and a really awesomely cozy granny sweater.

Shoes: JcPenney

Sunglasses: Walmart.(No,Really!)

Necklace: {Hedda.}

Bubble ring:gumball machine

3bead ring: {Hedda.}

Beaded Bracelet:A gift from my hubs, back when we were dating:)

Brass Bracelet: My mom's,vintage

And now,a snapshot:

Reading:Lots of blogs,and homeowner how-to books.

Watching: That 70's Show. The one where Fez and Jackie do a roller disco competition thing. Before that I was watching Tudors, which,if you haven't seen it yet,is an awesome series about Henry the 8th.I'm terribly late to the party,I know...seeing as how the series finale happened a few days ago.

Wearing:Workout clothes from earlier...a green cami, white running shorts, and argyle socks from Target.

Wanting:To have more hours in the day,to do a fun shoot with becky again, with awesome pictures instead of my sad self-timer-ed shots, and some brown wide-wale corduroy to make this bombin coat I have planned.

Plans of the Day(actually night):to clip my pooch's fur so the poor guy can be a bit cooler, then bathe him, then bathe myself because I always end up filthy after such ordeals.THEN I'm pulling an allnighter to fill some orders and wrap up some things for the Artists' Market I plan to participate in on Saturday.I'm seriously behind from being sick for all of last week.Ugh.

Homeward Bound

Hello lovelies! I know that I've been gone for ages, but it's because I've been traveling the world! I visited Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Ukraine, and Russia and I am quite exhausted now. Unfortunately, my style while traveling was rather bland - jeans, t-shirt, green converses, and when it was cold the beige military style jacket. However, I saw some great fashion that is definitely revolutionizing what I wear. I dress for comfort so often, but I should really put more thought into my clothing. Be prepared for more Becky/Heather awesomeness coming your way shortly!

Reading: "I'm a Stranger Here Myself", a collection of little opinion pieces about an American who returns to New Hampshire after living in England for 20 years.

Watching: "Shutter Island" (so creepy! The lady who shushes Teddy in the beginning - WHO IS SHE?!?!) , reruns of "the Golden Girls", lightning bugs in the dusk, my last summer as a student racing past me.

Wearing: do you really want to know? Because it's pretty sad. Okay, I will tell you. It is a ten year old Invader Zim tshirt, complete with holes, and grey kneelength cotton shorts things. Cut me some slack, I have to go to work later and I didn't feel like changing out of my pajamas (not even to go to Subway for lunch!).

Wanting: fruit, my degree, money to do more traveling, a few well spent days with my family and friends.

Plans of the Day: study for my Russian Culture final that is tomorrow, work on organizing my photos from my travels, go to work and let corporate America suck the life out of me.

Flats ...

I am SO quintessentially a heels girl.I've gotten so used to them I hardly know how to stand or walk in anything else..I have a few pairs of flip flops, like my cool gold ones here..and a few pair of Chuck Taylor's,and my running shoes...and that's it for me flats-wise.Ballet flats?Forget it.They hurt my feet far worse than any heels I own.
Yes.I AM one of those annoying chicks who swears her heels don't hurt her feet.Only the ones that are too small, which I wear anyways because that was the size they had and they were too fabulous not to have them.THOSE hurt.
But on this day,I was out running errands, and it was too hot to wear anything BUT a dress, and this is one I was dying to bust out...so out came the flips to 'dress it down' a smidge.

So anyways, not feeling right *just standing* in flats,I decided to play with the other poses.Sooo, stepping out of my weird comfort zone seems to be a good thing!Too bad my crappy self timer camera only turned out these 2 shots out of all that I took.

Dress : A closet discard from Becky.(Thank YOU!) I ruched the neckline to make it fit a little more closely up top...now it's just perfect for me:)(I have a weakness for sweetheart necklines.)

flipflops : JcPenney

'Belt : Ummmm,probably Deb, but I've had t forEVER and can't remember.
Necklace:
Hedda.

21

So I turned 21 last Wednesday:) The party had to wait til the weekend, but my husband and I had a nice tame date the evening of my bday:) It was nice to just go out with him and not have to worry about ,you know, stuff.
I realize being married doesn't automatically mean someone is mature, but for crap's sake,if one spouse is of age there should be an allowance for the other.Anyway! It was a great night,I had a blast:) What I wore:

I wish I would've gotten a pic of the dress alone. It's vintage, the tag says Marilyn Monroe, and it looks a *lot* like the dress she wore in the famous picture we all know and love.(at some point I am totally going to collab with becky and recreate that shot.)

The shirt I have tied up over it was a hand-me-down from Liz cleaning out her closet. The Belt you've seen before, and the shoes are from Fashion Bug,like a million years ago.

And this is simply how I did my makeup...I like to play with colors:)

I'd write more...but I feel like I've caught the plague,so I'm going to hit post real quick like.Bye now!

Playing with Gimp,*I am not a photographer*

How do you like the new hair, darlings?
It's not ALL this color...just the bangs and a few streaks throughout.the rest is just a shade darker brown than it was before.

Anywho...the dress above,is a sneak peak!I wore it to an interview-type-thing the other day(more on that later) just hours after making it. Yesterday,I had a fantastic photoshoot with Hayley! . (Something like 20 new items coming soon!) and this is one of the things we shot. So,better pics coming soon.

Octopus Clip: Hedda.

My sunday morning outfit:)
Shirt: JcPenney(from when I worked there)
Skirt,necklace,and octo clip: Hedda.
Belt: ? from Gabriel Bros.
Shoes: Thrift Score! Brand is Fahrenheit.

So there we have it. Be good(at it!Whatever you do.)!

Coming In From the Cold

In the absence of Becky(who is in RUSSIA right now...damn I'm Jealous.)and therefore the absence of an outfit shooting buddy,I've decided to continue with the posts of blurry self portraits in the mirror. These are older...from the last time I couldn't see B.I meant to post them forever ago...back when they were relevant...anywho,it was weird end-of winterish/beginning of springish weather and this is what I was wearing.
Shirt:?gifted.
Belt:vintage
Skirt:Toybox
Shoes:Deb
Tights:Target

This is just a random shot of my fake-ugg adorned feet on a door mat from Target that i was SOOOOO happy to get.I won't be getting another though...after being rained on twice all the colors bled off:( It was cute while it lasted though!

I wore this for a casual date with the hubs:)
Sweater:thrifted
Belt:Vintage(my mom's)
Top:Licorice
Skirt:French Atmoshphere
Tights:Deb
Fake Uggs: Groove

And this one was to go...to a bar maybe? I don't remember.
Jacket:Gap(my favorite jackets are all from Gap..I buy absolutely nothing else from there because it never fits...but the jackets are always perfect.)
Henley: a million years old...no idea when or where I got it...But I've seen myself in it in pics from as far back as 7th grade.
Pants:Gift from Becky...they are like the traveling pants! They look good on everyone!
Belt:Mudd
Shoes:Paprika

I just realized none of these outfits have anything in them from my own line....(shameless linking, yes.)
People have asked me quite a lot why I don't wear more from my own stuff..and the answer is that "I don't get to keep much of it because I like to make money". I've also talked to several other designers who feel like it is tacky to wear only their own work. This feeling in general seems common among a lot of types of creatives...not wanting to hang only your own artwork on your walls, not wanting only your own music playing through your speakers...you get the gist.

What do YOU think? When you think of a designer,do you imagine them to only wear their own work?Should they?

Anyways,I've been trying to incorporate more of my own work into my ensembles, and I've actually made a pact with myself to NOT BUY NEW CLOTHING ANYMORE.I'm holding myself to this for at least a year,if not indefinitely. I'm going to make everything myself.A year from now I will start to consider buying thrifted clothes again, but I don't really intend to ever buy new clothes again.
The upside of this? Aside from wearing more of my own work..I'll have my whole clothes budget for shoes, bags, jewelry, etc!
