Endless Salad and Endless Summer

So, Heather lied, because the next post is going to be just a text post!

Heather and I had a girls lunch today and ate endless salad and drank peach bellinis. The alcohol content was low, but the lunch was superb. Unfortunately, there are no pictures, because neither of us were feeling that spiffy and just wanted to have some girl time. We will eventually get our act together, but in the meantime, here is a Becky snapshot!

SNAPSHOT:

Listening: Green Day,
International Superhits, and the Beatles. Always.

Reading: "Invisible Monsters" by Chuck Palahniuk, "Lullaby" by Chuck Palahniuk, and a bunch of Management textbooks. Who would have thought that managers have so many things to learn?

watching: "Mad Men", "The Office", "Weeds", and infomercials.

wearing: a black skirt and a green top, complete with peacock necklace. I had to keep it ultra conservative today, because I had to go to a viewing for my bosses' dad. :-(

Wanting: my own apartment, a great dane OR french bulldog, to do good on my interviews tomorrow.

Plans of the day: I went to class, met Heather for lunch, went to the viewing, stopped by ghetto gas station to buy tea, went to Heather's, went to class, came home, watched Mad Men, went to eat with the family and am now watching the Office. SO BUSY.

Hey kids!I promise my next post will be on the Steam Art and the Life issue...I just haven't gotten good enough pics yet! So,today is a style post + snapshot, but not my personal style...Imma finally show you the house! after 8 months of hard, hard work it is finally looking like a real home,so room by room I'm going to introduce you to the place I call home, and Dave and I's combined sense of interior style:)Today; The master Bedroom!

Decal courtesy of wallsensations4you.etsy.com . I love the decal, but poor communication...and they got lots of bad feedback right after I ordered..:/
Oh well,it's still purty!

Poster,"Great wave of Kangawa": FYE. Love it.
bedding: all Target, except The elephant pilllow. That one I made with some fabric a lovely client suprised me with!
Curtains,Tables,Blue lamp: Target.
Brown Lamp:Vintage,repainted and a new shade...from,you guessed it,Target!
Fuzzy ottoman: actually an ugly plaid vintage ottoman, with an awesome faux fur blanket over it. The blankie was a wedding gift from our friend Purple Pants Joe.

looking into the Master bath( which I'll show you next!)
mirror and clock: Target

Freakin sweet driftwood: a beach find from our gulf trip earlier this spring. Just days before the oil hit the shore...

Original Watercolor Elephant by Me.

bookshelf: a castoff from the inlaws. It looks so much better since I painted it:)

very soon this dresser will be distressed white with turquoise drawer pulls. It was my sister's a long time ago....it will fit in this decor much better once I'm done with it!

So what do you think?

SNAPSHOT:
Listening: to myself cough constantly.Yep,sick again.GAH I HATE MY NONFUNCTIONAL IMMUNE SYSTEM.

Reading: that Life issue from 1946! Did you know that more doctors smoked Camels than anything else in 1946?Or that there was a confectioners' association dedicated to trying to make us think that candy is a 'real, delicious food, that is wonderful for your body, especially when you are low on energy' ? Not that I don't love my candy...but for reals, the ad was basically trying to say eat all the candy you want and you'll look just like this extremely hot and peppy secretary.LOL.More on this topic soon. Promise.

watching: mostly I've been revisiting the entire Gilmore Girls series in order. THANK YOU netflix! By the end I'll surely speak so fast no one will understand me anymore, just like when I was originally into the show.
Also, lots of My Name is Earl, cuz it's pretty much based on my home town.

wearing: El Hubbo's ratty Converse Tee ( aka most comfortable thing evah),and some pj bottoms he lovingly refers o as my 'teenage turtle shawties.' Yep,it's bedtime.

Wanting: on the very top of my list right now is a new drill...continuing on down the list there are many more power tools and tools in general I want.I can't help it,I'm a DIY er to the bone,it's how I was raised, and now that I'm not living with (or right next door to) anyone whose craftsman set I can use whenevs I want,I am building my own collection.Secret Santa's- please keep this in mind. Hedda is used to NICE powertools...not this crap she used all day today:)
besides the powertools, and all the other things I ask for every snapshot,I would like some new 'munities. Anyone got any they aren't using?

Plans of the day: well, it's over...but basically I spent the day working on our house. I redid my closet, which I'll share pics of soon, hopefully tomorrow!
Gnight all!

Heather and Becky Reunite!

Heather and I finally had a catch-up day! Our lives have been so busy lately that we haven't seen much of each other. This is quite a travesty, and one that we decided needed to be corrected. We got a little dolled up and went to our favorite local coffee shop to enjoy the afternoon!

Heather with her mocha.

Me, apparently in deep thought about my iced coffee.

Heather's legs (and Louie!)

WATCH OUT ARTSY SHOT!

We then decided to pop in Mary's. We're poor kids, but we like to browse sometimes. Mary's is a nice little junk shop that can literally contain ANYTHING, which is why it is so fun to go in and plunder. Above is just a tiny sample of Mary's crazy disorganization.

Heather's outfit shot!

Glorious purple belt - thrift score!

Here's a dress I've been meaning to wear. The length doesn't feel quite right, but I haven't figured out how to remedy it yet. Instead of worrying about it, I just threw it on and ran. Dress - Target. Shoes - Target. Belt - Thrift score! Glasses - who knows? Probably Forever 21, because I can't pay for more expensive sunglasses that I will only lose.

Heather's amazing score at Mary's! Steampunk goodness. She can shed more light on this topic, I'm sure.
Super cool, 1940's life magazine. Good things are to come from this LIFE, I can feel it. :-)

I hope everyone's summer is going swimmingly! Unfortunately, it's almost over. I'm trying my best to make the most of what's left!

The Past and Pending

World, meet my babies. These are the Converses that have been with me for about 8 or 9 years now. Note the dirt, band signatures, holes, etc. I finally took them to a cobbler...

and he gave me new soles! I'm so happy that my darlings have many years left in them again. By the way, if you are in Huntsville and need your shoes repaired, go see JT. He is amazing and I love him. I think we're kindred spirits.
Casual outfit - LOLcats shirt, shorts, sunglasses, flats.

A little dressier.
This is a cameo mother of pearl ring that I got in Italy. I love it! I usually stay away from bulky rings, but this one spoke to me.

Purple satin shoes from Target for a mere $5.

My awful sunburn. Here's to falling asleep in the sun before reapplying sunscreen. My legs were burnt to a crisp, too - yuck.
Simple grandparents house outfit - I get so fashionably lazy there.
This may be my favorite part of summer in the South - fresh fruit. It is exactly as good as it looks.

Peaches are probably my favorite summer time food. Here are some Chilton County peaches, famous throughout the South for being amazing.

Also, I can't visit the grandparents without going to my favorite barbeque joint. Maybe I'm a redneck, but I appreciate good barbeque when I can find it.
BANANA PUDDING! A grandma specialty. She loves me :-)
That's right. 106 degrees Farenheit. WAY TOO HOT.
My outfit today!

Listening: David Bowie, Neil Young, old The Shins - I've been in a world of ups and downs the last few weeks, so my music has to be pretty chill in order to keep me down to earth.

reading: "Stripped" by Bernadette Barton, which is a really interesting sociological look at strippers and what societal impacts have on their psyche, "Haunted" by Chuck Palahniuk, the latest issue of Glamour, because sometimes when you're poolside you have to have a bit of light reading.

watching: "The Reader" - which is amazing, and covered a lot of concepts that I dealt with in some of my papers for my Nazi history class in the spring. Oh, and I finally got around to watching "Slumdog Millionare" and I finally realize why it was such a hit!

wearing: navy blue crew neck tshirt that is a thousand years old, grey twill skirt that I wear a lot, a thrifted mens belt, flower bobby pin, flippy floppies, and a gold dangly necklace. Basically the last outfit.

wanting: to clear up some emotional garbage! Every time that I think my life is clear and simple, some aspect of it becomes inexplicably complicated. Maybe I just think about things too much, or I know too many people which creates problems in itself. I need to be a better friend! Also, on a more trivial level, I want to see Inception.

plans of the day: Well, it's 7pm at the moment. I've already made the car trek home from my grandparents' house and eaten dinner with family that was in town. I think tonight I will be seeing a few friends but hopefully nothing rambunctious.

SNAPSHOT!
Listening: I set my alarm to wake me up today with Ben's Brother Beta Male Fairytales. It's such a sweet cd...it makes me happy and sad all at the same time.

Also today, and for the last week really,I can't quit listening to Dream Theater . Today it was Train of Thought. Yes they are musical ehm...*show*...offs...but as a drummer I sometimes simply have to push past the lyrics, and James(the annoying person singing them), and just enjoy the amazingness that is Mike Portnoy.I wish I was that awesome.Particularly...I am trying to learn this intro:

trust me,it's harder than it looks.

reading: Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte.Kind of amazing that something written in 1847 resonates with me so well..

watching: Right now, Scrubs. Also, I finally saw Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.It made me cry...but I still just want to watch it over and over and over...

wearing: as little as possible, because it has been the hottest few days we've had yet,and I'm trying to not run the air conditioning too hard.

wanting: for the slipcover and decals I ordered online to arrive so I can finally show off pics of my completely decorated home! Also,a nice new camera to replace my shotty digital, and a new steam press, and a new serger.Business is growing..my equipment collection should grow, too, right?Right.

plans of the day: Finish upholstering my futon, make a dress, make some throw pillows, weight training and tennis with the boys (Dave, and two of my cousins/our best friends, whom our whole group refer to as 'the boys').And then, hopefully, a date with my hubby:) I think we're gonna go play pool and watch some live music.Woot!

UPDATE!I finished the futon! what do you think?

Flying Monkey Artist Market!

{me & Hayley,all glowy (read : sweaty)from the nerf swordfight that just happened}
****
Hello Everyone! sorry for the lag in posts.I've been concentrating on getting better(which I FINALLY did, after five effing weeks),and catching up on work.(Which means you should really check out my other blog, and see all my new products ,hehee!)And enjoying lots of playing outside:)

Also, about the sick thing...I figured out the neti pot bit,and it works wonders!even for the last few days that I've been better,I've still been using it and I think it helps my allergies. No more claritin, yay!

ON to the title subject:
Last Saturday I hawked my wares, stalked the wares of others, and made some new friends at the Flying Monkey Artist Market for the second time. It was way more better this time, because Dave (my Mister) got to stay most of the whole time, and Hayley and her Mister, Shawn, came too! We're doing it again either this Saturday or the next, after which I'll post some pics and explain a little more about this weekly event:)

Of course we were hungry after,so we went to Taco Bell. The soda made us hyper,so once we got back to our place, Dave got out the nerf swords and we played in the yard like the bunch of five-year-olds we really are! I promise,I'll show you pics of this soon, lol!

Anywho,here's what I wore:

Tank: JCPenney
Gingham High Waisted Skirt: {Hedda.} (These will be available on my etsy soon!)
Belt:Thrift score!!!One Dollar,Baby.

Kickass Shoes: gift from the lovely Becky!I can't remember where she said she got them...little help m'dear?

AND! I'll show you better pics of it soon, but how cool is my new barefoot sandal?I got it from a sweet girl selling across from me.After staring at it alll day wanting it,I gave in and bought it at the end.I love it so much,I've hardly taken it off since!

I'd do a snapshot, but this is feeling a bit long already,so I'll do it tomorrow with today's outfit:)
CYA!

Please allow me to introduce myself, I'm a man of wealth and taste

Hello, lovelies! My irregular posting schedule should come as no shock to anyone these days - I'm a bit of a procrastinator when it comes to blogging. The most exciting thing that has happened in between posts is that I got a haircut! Bangs and a little lightening, due to urging from my hairdresser. She was right, as always - blondes do have more fun!

I never wear hair accessories because my hair is really thick and usually they just get stuck. But I felt frisky and wore my butterfly clip the other day!

I love these shoes, but I was too lazy to buckle them just yet.

The charming, preschooler-esque scrape I have from falling into a hole in the yard. Clumsy? Yes.

I look a little bug-eyed crazy, but this is a better shot of the new hair!

An awesome Alice in Wonderland pin that one of my dearest friends (Sheena! Shout out to you, girl!) brought me back from Bonnaroo. I am DEFINITELY going to Bonnaroo next year!

Pre-haircut earring post.

My fashion motto for summer 2010: "It's too hot to wear pants." Of course, I have to wear pants to my job as a corporate slave, but in my downtime I have really been trying to make skirts and dresses work for me. Plus, with the new haircut, I feel very 1950's glamour girl, and so I have been trying to include that element in my style as of late. It's working out pretty well for me so far.

Snapshot:

Reading: "Strip City", a book about a woman who strips her way across the U.S. for a year, "Sophie Scholl and the White Rose", because I love Nazi history and especially the courage of the Scholls, and everyone's Facebook updates, because I like to stay informed.

Watching: "Breakfast at Tiffany's" again, "Beerfest" (I am ashamed to admit this one - I feel like I wasted too much of my life), and re-runs of "Friends", which never gets old. Oh, and also, my summer slipping away.

Wearing: Olive green deep V neck from Target and some heather grey workout shorts, also from Target. In my defense, I have to go to work later and could really care less about being cute while I'm just hanging out in my house.

Wanting: to become a bartender, to graduate school, to move out, to figure my life out, to have this glorious rainy day not be ruined by work.

Plans of the Day: get ready for work, go to work, sell Yuppies who think they have wonderfully witty comments overpriced coffee products, and then the night is mine :-)
