Flats ...

I am SO quintessentially a heels girl.I've gotten so used to them I hardly know how to stand or walk in anything else..I have a few pairs of flip flops, like my cool gold ones here..and a few pair of Chuck Taylor's,and my running shoes...and that's it for me flats-wise.Ballet flats?Forget it.They hurt my feet far worse than any heels I own.
Yes.I AM one of those annoying chicks who swears her heels don't hurt her feet.Only the ones that are too small, which I wear anyways because that was the size they had and they were too fabulous not to have them.THOSE hurt.
But on this day,I was out running errands, and it was too hot to wear anything BUT a dress, and this is one I was dying to bust out...so out came the flips to 'dress it down' a smidge.

So anyways, not feeling right *just standing* in flats,I decided to play with the other poses.Sooo, stepping out of my weird comfort zone seems to be a good thing!Too bad my crappy self timer camera only turned out these 2 shots out of all that I took.

Dress : A closet discard from Becky.(Thank YOU!) I ruched the neckline to make it fit a little more closely up top...now it's just perfect for me:)(I have a weakness for sweetheart necklines.)

flipflops : JcPenney

'Belt : Ummmm,probably Deb, but I've had t forEVER and can't remember.
Necklace:
Hedda.

21

So I turned 21 last Wednesday:) The party had to wait til the weekend, but my husband and I had a nice tame date the evening of my bday:) It was nice to just go out with him and not have to worry about ,you know, stuff.
I realize being married doesn't automatically mean someone is mature, but for crap's sake,if one spouse is of age there should be an allowance for the other.Anyway! It was a great night,I had a blast:) What I wore:

I wish I would've gotten a pic of the dress alone. It's vintage, the tag says Marilyn Monroe, and it looks a *lot* like the dress she wore in the famous picture we all know and love.(at some point I am totally going to collab with becky and recreate that shot.)

The shirt I have tied up over it was a hand-me-down from Liz cleaning out her closet. The Belt you've seen before, and the shoes are from Fashion Bug,like a million years ago.

And this is simply how I did my makeup...I like to play with colors:)

I'd write more...but I feel like I've caught the plague,so I'm going to hit post real quick like.Bye now!

Playing with Gimp,*I am not a photographer*

How do you like the new hair, darlings?
It's not ALL this color...just the bangs and a few streaks throughout.the rest is just a shade darker brown than it was before.

Anywho...the dress above,is a sneak peak!I wore it to an interview-type-thing the other day(more on that later) just hours after making it. Yesterday,I had a fantastic photoshoot with Hayley! . Coming In From the Cold

In the absence of Becky(who is in RUSSIA right now...damn I'm Jealous.)and therefore the absence of an outfit shooting buddy,I've decided to continue with the posts of blurry self portraits in the mirror. These are older...from the last time I couldn't see B.I meant to post them forever ago...back when they were relevant...anywho,it was weird end-of winterish/beginning of springish weather and this is what I was wearing.
Shirt:?gifted.
Belt:vintage
Skirt:Toybox
Shoes:Deb
Tights:Target

This is just a random shot of my fake-ugg adorned feet on a door mat from Target that i was SOOOOO happy to get.I won't be getting another though...after being rained on twice all the colors bled off:( It was cute while it lasted though!

I wore this for a casual date with the hubs:)
Sweater:thrifted
Belt:Vintage(my mom's)
Top:Licorice
Skirt:French Atmoshphere
Tights:Deb
Fake Uggs: Groove

And this one was to go...to a bar maybe? I don't remember.
Jacket:Gap(my favorite jackets are all from Gap..I buy absolutely nothing else from there because it never fits...but the jackets are always perfect.)
Henley: a million years old...no idea when or where I got it...But I've seen myself in it in pics from as far back as 7th grade.
Pants:Gift from Becky...they are like the traveling pants! They look good on everyone!
Belt:Mudd
Shoes:Paprika

I just realized none of these outfits have anything in them from my own line....(shameless linking, yes.)
People have asked me quite a lot why I don't wear more from my own stuff..and the answer is that "I don't get to keep much of it because I like to make money". I've also talked to several other designers who feel like it is tacky to wear only their own work. This feeling in general seems common among a lot of types of creatives...not wanting to hang only your own artwork on your walls, not wanting only your own music playing through your speakers...you get the gist.

What do YOU think? When you think of a designer,do you imagine them to only wear their own work?Should they?

Anyways,I've been trying to incorporate more of my own work into my ensembles, and I've actually made a pact with myself to NOT BUY NEW CLOTHING ANYMORE.I'm holding myself to this for at least a year,if not indefinitely. I'm going to make everything myself.A year from now I will start to consider buying thrifted clothes again, but I don't really intend to ever buy new clothes again.
The upside of this? Aside from wearing more of my own work..I'll have my whole clothes budget for shoes, bags, jewelry, etc!

Pinstripes/Miami Vice

So,We are not dead. Since our last update, spring has sprung,I have quit my dayjob and spent all my time working on my new house and on my business,I've been to the beach, and Becky has been to Europe.Yes,I Hate her too sometimes.Sigh...
So there you have The Short Version.
Karla over at Karla's closet has inspired me to step out of my usual jersey dress comfort zone for spring.I was channeling her ,along with Miami Vice, along something boho when I dressed for errands yesterday.Whaddaya think?Did I pull it off?
Jacket:vintage(Liz's mom gave it to me...fabulous yes?)
Belt :vintage (my momma's)
turquoise shoes and ring:Vintage(my sister's)
Necklace: petrified wood from a family vacation when I was little
shorts:Paris Blues that I cut off.

Color My Life With the Color of Chaos

Sorry for the complete and abject poverty of posts by me lately. I was doing rather well and then some unlikely and tragic events came up in my life, causing me to spend a week off of school and in my pajamas. Ever since then, I've been in a funk that I am desperately trying to break out of, and I think today might be the day that it happens. For instance, at this very moment, I am sitting outside of my favorite building at my college, in the warm sunshine, sipping tea and taking a break from writing a very, very insightful paper on the critical themes of "Good Bye Lenin!" (great movie, by the way). Anyway, my fashion concept is still very grandpa inspired at the moment. Barring today, the weather lately has been abysmal and has called for cardigans nonstop. Note my brand new oxfords in the first pictures: I'm in love. No man can make me as happy as those shoes!

I figure that I will give you a little snapshot of myself right now:

Reading: Alice in Wonderland. I've never read it before! Everyone has told me this is a travesty that I need to fix, so I'm doing it.

Watching: "Whip It!", the latest episode of the Office where Pam has the baby, the spring slowly slipping into my life.

Wearing: work uniform. Nasty Keds that are so very comfortable, khakis, oversized "Starbucks" polo, my super rad oversized sunglasses.

Wanting: some lunch. I am just crippled with indecision on where to find said lunch. I want something really fresh and really cheap....

Plans of the Day: to go to my Nazi history class, pop into work and make that money, go home and see my lovely grandparents who are coming into town.

Пока!
